HULL NO 1

We went out for test sailing Farr 25 OD with its brand new sail set designed and produced by North Sails Turkey. Thanks to the variable  wind conditions  on test day, we were able to sail her in a TWS range of 8 to 17 knots in various TWAs for three hours. We were impressed with the ease of handling and performance of the boat in all angles. Farr 25 appeared to be very stable yet quick and highly responsive. We easily attained target speeds and angles of boat's VPP. I felt like driving a 470 or FD in terms of responsiveness.

I congratulate the Farr Yacht Design and OD Yachting teams for designing and building such a good boat.

“We want to open up the world of yacht racing to everyone. We love sailing and the sport of yacht racing and want to share our passion with like-minded people.”

“We want to attract and enchant more and more participants, grabbing the attention of an increasing number of people and of the media.”
It was only a matter of time before we realized our goal to draw sailors together in friendly, social sailing events that introduce and welcome beginners to the fun of yacht racing.  We have long believed that supporting social sailing should be more in the forefront.
One-design and match racing are the best alternatives! It is just too limiting, competing within handicaps and ratings, boat of different size, large sailing teams, working to keep the team organized and together, increasing financial burdens, all the time keeping up with the spirit of amateur sailing.
After participating in many races, we found ourselves talking and thinking about creating a brand new class, where socialization is as valuable as racing and where newcomers with a thirst for adventure can expand their sailing abilities, enhanced with excitement and adrenaline.
Keeping with the amateur spirit, the competition of sailing can be challenging and relaxing; even fun!
Professionalism meeting with amateurism...
The concept has to offer high performance and ease of handling in all conditions as well as impressive acceleration and maneuverability. This design must be suitable for sailors of all levels and abilities but still demanding good skills to beat the opposition. It needs to be fun on a technical course and in match racing, yet suitable for longer coastal yacht races.
With the intentions listed above, we looked to a long-standing specialist in racing yachts, one of the world’s top racing-yacht design teams to develop Farr 25 OD.

Objectives in Choosing The Boat

    • Innovative design & construction suitable for advancing technologies

    • High stability, high performance and ease of handling; equal to much larger boats.

    • Suitability for match racing - becoming more and more popular throughout the world, this is equally as important a factor to the popularity of the sport as one-design racing.

    • Highly competitive with the potential of winning under handicap racing like IRC

    • An absolute equality between boats and teams regardless of conditions; put the emphasis on the sailing.

    • Cost-effective, both with the initial purchase and the long term ownership.

    • Easy to store, set-up and launch at the sailing club in coordination of races; without the need for additional marina support facilities.

    • A reasonable crew size of 4 - 5 sailors with a total weight of 815 lbs (370 kg).

    • Racing, socializing and weekend activities under one club/organization

Given these facts, we chose to work with the world’s top racing-yacht design team with established experience in one-design fleets: Farr Yacht Design
